MEANING:

When do you get up?       I get up at seven o'clock.

When do you go to bed?    I go to bed at ten o'clock.

GRAMMAR

In conversation, Norwegians use the 12 hour system for telling
time.

1) The prepositions "på (to)" and "over (after)" are used to
   indicate time before the hour/half hour or after the hour/
   half hour.

2) The word "kvart" is used to indicate 15 minutes/a quarter
   to or after the hour.

3) The time at the half hour anticipates the next hour rather
   than expressing time past the previous hour.
   ex.)  9.30 - "halv ti (half ten)" instead of nine thirty

4) The times of twenty after and twenty five after the hour
   anticipate the half hour.
   ex.)  9.20 - "ti på halv ti (ten to half ten)"
         9.25 - "fem på halv ti (five to half ten)"

5. The times of twenty five to and twenty to the hour are
   expressed as time after the half hour.
   ex.)  9.35 - "fem over halv ti (five after half ten)"
         9.40 - "ti over halv ti (ten after half ten)"

6) When telling time, Norwegians use the neuter form of the
   number one, "ett" rather than "en."
   ex.)  klokka ett (one o'clock)

7) To ask for the time, Norwegians use the following question:
   "Hva er klokka?"         Klokka/Den er _________.
   (What is the time?)      (The time/It is _______.)

   9.00  (klokka ni)
   9.05  (klokka fem over ni)
   9.10  (klokka ti over ni)
   9.15  (klokka kvart over ni)

   9.20  (klokka ti på halv ti)
   9.25  (klokka fem på halv ti)
   9.30  (klokka halv ti)
   9.35  (klokka fem over halv ti)
   9.40  (klokka ti over halv ti)

   9.45  (klokka kvart på ti)
   9.50  (klokka ti på ti)
   9.55  (klokka fem på ti)

Hallo.  Mitt navn er Katrina. Jeg bodde i staten Michigan i mange
år, men nå bor jeg i staten Massachusetts fordi jeg studerer
ved Universitetet i Massachusetts.  Staten Massachusetts er
dessverre langt borte fra min familie.  Min eldre søster, Wendy
(30), bor i staten Minnesota, men hun reiser ofte.  En av mine
yngre søstre, Valeri (22), bor i East Lansing, Michigan, fordi
hun studerer kunst og psykologi ved Michigan State Univeristy.
Jeg er både meget stolt av og sjalu på henne av mange grunner.
Min yngste søster, Erica (16), bor i Troy, Michigan hos
foreldrene våre. I fjor flyttet min mormor til staten Michigan
for å være nærmere sin datter. Jeg har "en datter" som heter
Mri'fa. Hun er "bare" en katt, men jeg elsker henne som om hun
var et barn.
