CULTURE:

Each district or area in Norway has its own BUNAD or national
costume. They share many characteristics, but differ in color
and cut, embroidery and decoration.  Those who have national
costumes wear them on the Seventeenth of May and other special
occasions such as baptisms, confirmations, weddings, etc.  Those
who do not have national costumes wear their nicest and often
new spring clothes on the Seventeenth of May.

GRAMMAR:

Irregular nouns:

Some nouns in Norwegian are IRREGULAR, changing the vowel in the
word to create plural forms rather than adding the regular plural
endings.  In English, there are also many irregular nouns, such
as "mouse - mice, goose - geese, man - men, foot - feet."  In the
chart below, you will see the regular noun "penn (pen)" and two
irregular Norwegian nouns "mann (man)" and "nordmann (Norwegian)."

God dag. Jeg liker å gå på kino i helgene fordi jeg er glad i
å se filmer. Jeg skal slappe av i kveld og se på TV, men noen
ganger liker jeg å gå på pub eller diskotek på fredager. Jeg

Hei!  Jeg heter Paula, og jeg reiste til Norge i 1989. Jeg lærer
norsk ved å bruke "Language/30" lydbånd og _Norwegian in 10
Minutes a Day_.

Jeg liker å lese mine norske bøker: _Norsk Fuglehåndbok_,
_Min Første Ordbok_ (Richard Scarry), _Gåsemorboka_, _Stone
Fences_ (Pål-Helge Haugen-- på engelsk og norsk), og _The
Silence Afterwards_ (Rolf Jacobsen--på engelsk og norsk). De to
siste er diktsamlinger, og de har et dikt på norsk på en side
og så samme dikt på en annen side på engelsk.  Diktene ble
oversatt av Roger Greenwald.

Jeg har også Einar Haugens _Norwegian-English Dictionary_ og
Hugos _Norwegian in Three Months_ og Berlitz _Norwegian for
Travellers_.

En norsk venn av meg, Kaspar, hjelper meg med norsk, og jeg har
en annen venn, Duncan, som skriver til meg på norsk. Han er
ornitolog, og han skriver om fugler. Hen studerer også NorWord.
