Pierre's verb of the week

gi

Verb of the week: gi

Hei klasse!

Here is the next "verb of the week", a very common one: "å gi",
"to give". Besides the obvious uses, it appears in many idioms.
It often has both an indirect object (the recipient) and a direct
object (that which is given).

Note that there are two possible past tense forms: "ga" and "gav".
In literature and older writing you will mostly see "gav", while
"ga" is becoming more common in everyday speech and writing.

å gi = to give (infinitive)
de gir = they give (present tense)
de ga / de gav = they gave (simple past tense)
de har gitt = they have given (past participle)

'de' means 'they.'
